Movimientos Live @ Hootannanny
Saturday 25th August:
Kalakuta Millionaires, Voodoo Love Orchestra & Maracatu Estrela Do Norte + DJs Andres Digital (Tropicalbass.com) + Residents Cal Jader & Arias

Brixton’s award winning live music venue welcomes us back for a block rocking night of bold live music from three magic bands: KALAKUTA MILLIONAIRES – a heavyweight Afro-Latin Funk and Soul ensemble; the VOODOO LOVE ORCHESTRA - who bring brass band carnival music from New Orleans to Nigeria, from Colombia to Jamaica; and MARACATU ESTRELA DO NORTE with their explosive Afro-Brazilian Carnival drums.

DJs include Andres Digital - always searching for that perfect crossover between Cumbia and Bass, plus residents Cal Jader and Arias Movimientos DJs with their Latin, Dancehall & Tropical Bass…

MORE: Kalakuta Millionaires - Following live recordings for the BBC at Maida Vale studios in 2009, Kalakuta Millionaires Afro-Latin Orchestra has been wowing audiences across the UK and Ireland. With a blistering 5-piece horn section, jazz-funk guitar seamlessly merges into highlife, soaring harmonies give a fresh funk-soul twist to the traditional Latino and African rhythms. “Perfect,” says Mark Lamarr, BBC. Voodoo Love Orchestra have us swaying to the big band sound of 1960s Latin America and Africa with infectious, maverick and irresistibly swinging street music. This globe-trotting ensemble straddles a whole range of pan-Atlantic sounds: Colombian Cumbia, Cuban Comparsa, Nigerian Afrobeat, Jamaican Ska and Ghanaian Highlife. MARACATU ESTRELA DO NORTE’s drumming mastery will take you straight to the heart of the carnival in seconds. Andres Digital, known for his hard Reggae Cumbia drops, guaranteed to keep you moving till the end…
