With an Autumnal spring in our stride Movimientos presents another trailblazing line up of delights from the global Latin underground! This time around heavyweight Afrobeat with Cuban and Brazilian influences from the majestic Kalakuta Millionaires, Swinging Flamenco, gypsy and latin from Gypsy Butter and Latin Funk and rock with Afro-Venezuelan influences from Baldo Verdu and Tonto Malembe. Whilst on the decks DJ Eko flies in direct from NY to drop a fresh tropical selection of anything from Cumbia to Dancehall, Salsa and Afro-bass.

KALAKUTA MILLIONAIRES
Heavy duty Afrobeat with strong Cuban and Brazilian influences
Taking the listener on a musical journey which references jazz, funk, soul and world music. A heavy underbelly of rhythm and bass underpins a horn section blistering with soul, whilst jazz-drenched guitar riffs merge seamlessly into highlife and funk. A truly polyrhythmic percussion section of four congas, percussion rack and hand held percussion brings in East and West African, Cuban and Brazilian influences.

Tanzanian/ Kenyan vocalist Siggi Mwasote has generated her own unique lyrical style, giving a fresh funk-soul twist to the traditional African aesthetic. Many of the lyrics are written in a mixture of Swahili and English and the unique female-led perspective is communicated passionately through the music.

Following live recordings for Mark Lamarr at BBC Maida Vale studios, the band has performed to thousands, headlining stages at Glastonbury Festival, Latitude Festival, Secret Garden Party, Waterford Spraoi, Sunrise Festival and many more.
With airtime on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music, there’s been KM tunes on Craig Charles’ Funk & Soul Show, Mark Lamarr’s God’s Jukebox, Russ Dewbury’s Jazz Rooms show and John Warr’s Afrobase show.

BALDO VERDU Y SU TONTO MALEMBE
Latin Funk & Fusion with Afro-Venezuelan roots
Baldo Verdú y su Tonto Malembe is a Latin-Fusion Quartet recently formed in London, UK; by Keenan Bailey (bass), Josepph Costi (piano/keyboards), Lya Drummer (drums) and Baldo Verdú (vocals & guitars).

The band, leaded by its guitarist and singer Baldo Verdú, explores the sounds of Rock music in combination with Latin American genres such as Cumbia, Guaracha, Tambor and Latin Funk; as the result of a life-long experience among these music expressions, thanks to the participation in major Latin bands as La Parranda de Lilliam, Conjunto Papa Upa and Fumaça Preta; in parallel with a continuous experience in the Rock scene with bands as Fibonacci and the more recent The BaBy Factory.

Baldo Verdú y su Tonto Malembe sounds of afro venezuelan and afro-caribbean rhythms. Baldo Verdú ?s guitar adds to the ensemble the funky vibe. The original songs are mainly sung in spanish, a few in english. All of them absorbing the audience into a world of energy, afro - latin folklore and exuberance.
