All over Latin America, February means one thing: Carnival! To honour this amazing cultural tradition we’re bringing the biggest street party vibes down to Brixton’s no. 1 venue for another Movimientos presents extravaganza, this time with a Carnival twist to chase away any remaining winter blues. We’ll be administering a serious dose of Brazilian carnival flavour from The Fontanas, whose fusion of samba, funk and soul is guaranteed to get the party moving in a big way. We’re adding a London twist to this potent tropical cocktail in the form of Barking Bateria, East London’s finest samba fusion ensemble. Whilst Acid Jazz signings New Street Collective will also be flying the flag for London with some soulful vibes early on. Movimientos DJs will take to the decks to play the latest in global and Latin sounds, and just like that, you have all the right ingredients to keep the carnival vibes flowing into the small hours. ¡Bom carnaval a todo o mundo!

The Fontanas
Brazilian Funk / Samba / Soul / Ska
The Fontanas are a true fusion act, combining influences of Brazilian Funk with Samba Soul, as well as clear elements of Bossa Nova, Ska and rare grooves. With their multiple influences scattered across the globe, the music finds its roots firstly in the foothills of Brazil and Jamaica, but defines its sound from its urban home in West London. The Fontanas describe their sound as being influenced by "Bill Withers, Seu Jorge, Mylo, John Martyn, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, The Rapture, Luke Vibert, Gorillaz, Horace Andy, The Skatalites. Let’s be honest... anything with soul."

Barking Bateria

Born in Brazil, brewed in Barking! This Motely crew of drummers are guaranteed to tear up the place, with their merry band of percussionists and theatrical performers. The ‘Bateria have been playing samba and samba fusion in collaboration with the Univeristy of East London for over a decade, performing at carnivals, street parties, and were recently featured in the BBC show ‘The Revolution will be Televised.’ Known for their high octane, energetic performances as much as their eccentricity, expect a fusion of Samba, Reggae and Afoxe, with the occasional Drum & Bass or Ragga jam thrown in for good measure.
