MOVIMIENTOS: Música Mestiza. Documentary films. Latin Culture
About us
Movimientos is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of Latin American culture in the UK and beyond. Through our events we aim to support the musicians, DJs and artists at the forefront of the Latin music scene as well as providing a platform for political/social documentaries on Latin America. We also work to connect, and provide a space for, the organisations that promote awareness or campaign on issues relating to the continent.
Why Movimientos
The extensive spectrum of Latin culture and current political issues is largely ill represented by the mass media in the UK and Europe. We aim to counter the image of Latin culture just being about salsa or samba and to highlight the true diversity of what is being produced. We choose to promote Latin culture by providing a platform for the groups and individuals in the UK and Latin America who have little or no outlet for promoting new and unseen cultural developments that deal with issues faced by the continent, such us the state of indigenous communities in Central and South America. The audience that attends Movimientos is very diverse and their interest and knowledge of Latin America varies. The relaxed atmosphere at Movimientos welcomes people from all walks of life to join in on the debates shaping Latin American past, present and future.
