LIVE ACTS
B-Loco
B-loco are London's urban bateria. B-loco was born in 2004, formed by 15 musicians with a shared desire to bring the sound of World percussion up-to-date for an eclectic, global London. Since then, the 'loco has created a buzz performing its original, loud and energetic set to capacity crowds in London, Glasgow and Cardiff. Their loco sounds blend Brazilian and African influences with funk, drum 'n' bass, hip-hop and dance-floor samples. A unique performance that bends boundaries on the stage and on the streets! The urban sound of a global London!
VeRO
VeRO inspired by influences from a changing and yet traditional world, doesn't slot into a specific category. She projects her Colombian style strong, distinctive voice, and a fun way of creating sounds. As a sound, a mixed up melting-pot of Latin urban sounds, acoustic guitars and hand made rhythms looped live with layers of vocals that sounds like a band and a female choir are backing her up.
Veronica's quirky lyrics, sexy, smiley grooves, of gorgeous laid back soulful sounds and her broken English chats between tracks has the irresistible ability of drawing the audience in, a mischievous yet addictive, a very international mix of music that crosses cultures and reflects the merging multicultural society. Previously she has sung with V-Ro a Colombian/English band whose album Manana is a Passionate slice of uplifting Beach pop.
Monkfish Big Band
Monkfish are a London collective of musicians who at present have 9 contributors, all sharing a deep love for African music and the music of the African Diaspora in the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Each member brings their own knowledge and experience to the group and all compositions emerge from a truly democratic system, so when a classic souks styled tune is tackled you may also hear the congas produce a guaguanco Cuban rumba rhythm underneath; at other times a classic 6/8 jazz kit may drive a West African influenced guitar line; or songs sung in Swahili, Lugandan, or Lingala may receive a soca-beat treatment, and true to their African influences Monkfish remains a feet stompingly good night out!
FILM
With Or Without Fidel
With Or Without Fidel is a ground-breaking documentary that features Cuba's leading politicians, intellectuals and dissidents, who debate the future direction of the Island's 48 year-old revolution.
How do Cubans feel about their own identity and freedom of speech? For the first time, the people of Cuba question the values that western democracy holds sacred and the price Cubans have paid for their independence.
With Or Without Fidel is an extremely rare glimpse into the heart of Cuban society. Rice N Peas Films was given unprecedented access to produce an honest portrayal of the Island.
Filmed during the most precarious period in Cuba's history, With or Without Fidel reveals the aspirations and vulnerabilities of a country on the brink of change.
