Gazpacho Unlimited

Occupation: Gazpacho UnLimited is an organic and fair trade International collaboration. Sharing similar concerns about the function of performance, artistically and socially, this company aims to use Performance as a catalyst to find a common language, informed by a multiplicity of cultural, political backgrounds.
Bringing together physical theatre, dance, visual arts, capoeira, new circus and poetry, the company builds a new way of creating collaborative work that becomes a small democracy, a place of communication and exchange, tax-free.
The five members of Gazpacho UnLimited met on the MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths, which they used as a laboratory for experimentation, developing their hybrid method of working. The process is horizontal and collaborative, always examining and re-assessing the ways in which individual voices can be retained.

Their performance at Movimientos:
What It Takes To Get From A To B aims to explore how the tension between personal experience and institutional schemata can be addressed through performance. Using the format of a conference, five individual narratives come together in an absurd and satirical event that strives not to make a declamatory statement, rather to highlight the complexities arising from the current social, political and cultural climate.
This performance piece regardless of where it is placed comes from the idea that power structures shape space and hence social relationships. Space is deconstructed and built again through physical scores of political speeches, satirizing both leaders and those that follow them. The audience’s experience shifts between controlled gaze to being a close witness of intimate narratives.
The audience is placed on the borderline of immersion and observation, having the possibility to become part of an undefined race for power, or to construct their own commentary on what is unfolding around them.

What It Takes To Get From A To B can be performed in any space, as it is constructed as a set of rules rather than a fixed script. The performance is adapted to each space, drawing from the elements of each specific environment both in terms of content and action.
